Something's fishy....

So, I was minding my own business, just lounging around watching tv....when a food commercial came on. And I don't know who it was for I was concentrating so hard on what they were advertising...

For those of you who don't realize what that is - it's FISH. It's SALMON. It's -- what the heck is wrong with me?!

Seafood = gross

Part of me is thinking this might be a tasty treat, while the other part of me is saying, "No! We've been down this road! It does not end pretty!" *something in my mind is telling me that's not proper grammar, but I don't care. Up yours, Mrs. Finch!*

The day I eat fish will be the day Dave gives birth to twins.

Like Whoa.

There is definitely something foreign growing in me. Tonight, as I was making dinner, I was digging through our freezer for some frozen veggies - mixed veggies? nah. corn? nah. broccoli? eh. peas?

Like WHOA!

As anyone in my family can attest - I HATE peas. I hate the texture, hate the smell, hate the taste.

Well...

Not anymore apparently. I was actually getting mad at Dave for loading his plate full of peas and leaving me with only half the bag. WTF?

So whatever this thing turns out to be that's growing inside me - it's definitely part Dave. No questions.

Sad Day

So yesterday I had to reaffirm to myself that I am indeed allergic to bleach. I had discovered this lovely little fact while on my honeymoon in Florida.

We had just gotten in from a very long 8-9 hour drive and I felt like soaking in one of these beauties.

Well...the moment I get out I notice I've got hives ALL OVER my legs. Itchy, burning, nasty hives. So nasty in fact, I was balling my eyes out. We didn't have any Benedryl, and the concierge was of no help. I was rubbing ice all over my legs to try to reduce the swelling and puffing and itching and succeeding for the 3 secs my legs were too frozen to feel. So we end up making a run to Target (15 minutes away) for some Benadryl.

I didn't know I was allergic to bleach. I thought I had been infected with someone's nasty vagina junk - like you see on those episodes of Oprah-- and I was sure I'd just contracted some nasty down-there disease. Well, by the FOURTH time we'd called for the tub to be all but extracted, the maids finally realized they'd cleaned the wrong room 3 times. So needless to say, the witchy maid came in, and without any apology or anything nice just says to me, "You're just allergic to bleach" and shot me a look that would have killed me if I hadn't been throwing out my own death vibes to her.

Allergic to bleach? Huh?! Who's allergic to bleach? I just ignored her and went on my oh-so-merry way. Till I started noticing that whenever I wear something white - I itch and break out into tiny little hives. Or, like last night when I cleaned my tub with Clorox spray and go in for a nice soak - my arms itch and break out into hives where I hadn't quite rinsed off all of the bleach along the rim. I don't know when I developed this allergy. I didn't really notice it till the lovely maid pointed it out to me.

So now I'm going to have to start hunting down cleaners that contain no bleach. I've already stopped using bleach on my clothes. Anyone know of any products I can buy??

Warning: TMI to follow...readers beware!

As I am nearing the end of the first trimester, I am becoming more and more aware of things that happen during pregnancy. For those of you that are faint of heart - you may just want to skip this post.

Things I am becoming aware of:
Round Ligaments - um, ow - is all I can say on that.
Needing a bigger bra - GREAT - just want I always wanted - even bigger boobs!
Relaxin - especially plays a part when I'm up and running for 12-hour shifts. By the end of the shift I am waddling through the halls, praying for my hips to stay intact.
Food makes me happy - people eating my food makes me seriously unhappy.
Psycho Chick can rear her ugly head at any given moment, and over any given thing, and feel totally and completely justified for feeling that way - until the hormones subside. Mortals beware.
Pooping - and I mean something more than rabbit pellets - is something to be celebrated and cherished.
I cannot stop myself from "passing gas". It comes when it wants to, with my permission or not. Several people have been subjected to the toxic fumes, and few have survived - and I swear there really is a green fog. Just ask Dave. Gives new meaning to "SBD".
I can never be more than 20 seconds away from a bathroom. Port-a-potties don't count. I have not reached that point of desperation - yet. And it's no longer for the dry heaves and the up-chucking. It's for the constant, undeniable urge to pee. Even just swallowing spit will fill my bladder like the Hoover Dam, within 5 minutes of peeing the last time.
Night sweats. I will be FREEZING all day, but as soon as I hit the sack, I am burning up - sweating - then freezing for taking the sheet off - then sweating again - over, and over, and over again. All night.
Subway sounds like the most wonderfully delicious place in the whole wide world. And I can't have it. And that makes me mad. Do not even think about eating it in front of me. You WILL be introduced to Psycho Chick.
Pregnancy brain truly does exist. I have fallen victim to it. I'm just glad I know where my head is.

I am so- looking forward to what the next few months have to bring. I'm especially excited to go swimsuit shopping (read that with a hefty dose of dripping sarcasm). Really, I think things will start to get a little more exciting. Right now, though, all I really care about is finding a COMFORTABLE bra to live in.

Squeaky Clean...

So, I bought one of these dolls today. I had been debating and debating - hearing what other people said about it. Then I looked at my hardwoods today...and bought it instead of crying. And can I just say - I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!!!

It takes some getting used to (and a little extra time), and it's harder to push on linoleum than on hardwoods - but my floors are SUPER clean. I didn't have to get down on my hands and knees and scrub like I used to. It came up ALL BY ITSELF!

The only cons - I can't really get into corners. And it IS hard to push on linoleum (could be just my lack of experience - it was the first floor I steamed). And I wish I didn't have to refill it every so often...and I am just too impatient to wait 30 seconds for it to steam up...but it's all worth it for the end result. LOVE IT. I should have taken before and after pictures. My floors don't smell like dog anymore!

My next object to try (since it is $10 off at Target right now...) is this:

If it can suck the crap out of corners/edges - it'll save my back! Our regular vacuum just doesn't work very well on hardwoods. Stay tuned...to when I can afford a $60 purchase...
I think it was one of Good Housekeeping's Best Buys - but that could have been another infomercial.

Goodbye, Toby

It's a sad day. Since we've learned we're expecting we've decided to re-home our dogs.
We've found a new home for Toby. He'll soon have the love and attention of a 7-year-old boy who is yearning for a dog of his own. So sometime this week, Toby will be leaving us. It's a bittersweet moment. We will miss him - Dave especially - but we won't miss the destruction he's done to our house. He's our ring leader - stirring everyone into trouble - and enjoying it, I must say.
We've discovered his little tactic. Somehow he manages to jump on the kitchen counters and eat whatever is up there - while he has Max doing the look-out, and Bella causing the distraction until his job is complete. He's a clever little devil.

Secret's out!

So, after much tongue biting and nail chewing, I just decided to go ahead and announce it earlier than planned. It is SO HARD to keep a secret as big as this!! We tried. At least now I'll actually have something to blog about!

So, alas, Dave and I are expecting a little pumpkin in October. We are freakishly excited. I have joined everyone online community for prego moms that I've heard of. Which is good, and bad. Some people worry about things I haven't even thought to worry about. So now, of course, I worry about them.

Like - I'm crampy. But am I too crampy? Or not enough crampy? Is it just my uterus expanding, or is something going wrong? If I don't cramp for a day or two I freak out. If I cramp more than a couple times a day, I freak out. It is very annoying. And you never can get that negative little thought out of the back of your head. It's there for good. Sigh.

Luckily, I seem to have overcome the morning sickness (or is that another bad sign?! see - it doesn't stop). It only happens with certain things instead of constantly. Like this morning, I was craving banana bread. So I get up to make some, everything's going fine. Till I unpeel the bananas. I had to sit down for 5 minutes, on the verge of passing out and trying not to throw up. But I finished making it so hopefully I'll want it when it's done in 20 minutes.

I've also come to realize what I just can't eat anymore. Chicken and pork are definitely out. I can't do dairy. Water makes me gag. I have never craved subway so much in my life, now that I can't eat it. I can't eat many vegetables. This past week I was on a salad kick (but I could only stand the Olive Garden dressing) and now vegetables make me gag. It changes daily. But the meat thing seems like it's here to stay. I made chicken alfredo a couple nights back for dinner - had one piece of chicken and I felt sick the rest of the night. So the .99/lb chicken I stocked up on is sitting there in the freezer. Just waiting.

On the flip side, I've discovered some items I just can't live without. Like pickles. When I had really bad "morning" sickness, I could eat a pickle and be cured. But, they HAVE to be Claussen pickles. Dunno why. The other brands just look nasty. I've developed a new love for KFC's baked beans. Oh, my heaven. They are d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s. My mouth waters just thinking about them. And lately I've had Ruffles and ranch dip for breakfast. But somehow, amidst all this wonderfully healthy eating - I fit back into my skinny jeans. And it will probably be the last time. Ever. It's kind of sad. But then part of me is so excited to go shopping for maternity clothes.

I've been looking at motherhood.com. They have some CUTE clothes! And swimsuits! There's a red gingham (sp?) one that looks mighty cute. I just don't know what size I'll be! And it'll be quite a few more weeks before I'll even need to start thinking about it. Sigh. Let's get a move on, kid!

I found a website that compares the baby to different foods as it grows. Right now, at 9 weeks, it's the size of a grape. Now, I can't eat grapes. It just seems wrong. Maybe next week, when it's supposed to be the size of a kumquat, I'll be able to eat a grape. But not before then.
